The Philadelphia 76ers fell to the Orlando Magic on the road on Friday in their second NBA Cup game. The Sixers are now 0-2 in the second annual in-season tournament and they have work to do in these final two NBA Cup games while also needing help.
Rookie Jared McCain had 29 points on 10-for-17 shooting while Joel Embiid had 20 points and eight rebounds along with Paul George added 13 points. The fourth quarter was a tough one for Philadelphia as the Magic took full control of the game.
With the loss to the Magic, here are the latest in the NBA Cup standings:
Nov. 16 Group A standings
Orlando Magic 2-0 — GB Plus-37 point differential
New York Knicks 2-0 — GB Plus-14 point differential
Brooklyn Nets 0-1 1.5 GB Minus-2 point differential
Charlotte Hornets 0-1 1.5 GB Minus-25 point differential
Philadelphia 76ers 0-2 2 GB Minus-24 point differential
The Sixers don’t have much of a chance to win their group following their loss to the Magic on Friday. The only way they could win their group is by winning their final two NBA Cup games while winning by large amounts to earn a tiebreaker over the Knicks or the Magic which is very slim at this point.
East Wild Card standings
The Sixers could advance via the Wild Card in the East, but those chances are also slim. The Knicks currently hold the Wild Card spot in the Cup standings and the Sixers are dead last due to their Minus-25 point differential. They’re behind the Toronto Raptors whose point differential is Minus-24.
