Liverpool on alert as €150m Real Madrid superstar considering his future after Mbappe arrival

Real Madrid’s Champions League-winning forward Rodrygo is reported to be losing faith that he will have a starting place at the club next season, prompting speculation that he could soon QUIT the Bernabeu.

A report in Sport suggests that the 23-year-old does not fully believe that new signing Kylian Mbappe will always play as the team’s No.9 and will instead drift to the wings, placing Rodrygo’s status in Carlo Ancelotti’s preferred starting XI under threat.

Rodrygo is currently experiencing a difficult time at the Copa America with Brazil, where the pre-tournament favourites suffered an opening day draw against Costa Rica.

Sport reports that Rodrygo has been attempting to block out any transfer noise while he is away in the United States with his national team but the player and his entourage are growing increasingly worried about his future prospects post-Mbappe’s arrival.

Madrid’s landmark signing last summer was one-time Liverpool target Jude Bellingham, who ended up playing as a false 9 for much of the campaign, with Vinicius on the left and Rodrygo on the right.

That led to Rodrygo playing more of a supporting role as the two superstars in Madrid’s attack carried out their business, leading to a LaLiga and Champions League double.

He ended up with 17 goals in 51 games, two fewer goals than the season before although he played in six fewer matches.

Rodrygo no longer believes Madrid message

The report adds that Madrid have been attempting to give Rodrygo confidence that he still will have a crucial role to play going forward. The club have sought to reassure Rodrygo that Joselu’s departure for Al-Gharafa means Mbappe will move up front, leaving the wings free.

But shockingly it’s claimed that the player and his entourage no longer BELIEVE the message that’s being transmitted.

The former Santos academy player is under contract until 2028 in the Spanish capital but faces increased competition for his starting berth next season.

Not only will he have Mbappe to contend with but Arda Guler is also going to be looking for more football having starred at Euro 2024. And that’s before we get to Brazil teenage sensation Endrick and Brahim Diaz.

Premier League teams – including Liverpool – are now on alert in case Rodrygo becomes available.

The Reds have a long-standing interest in the winger, almost becoming his first European destination when he left Santos, and it was recently claimed by Spanish media that Liverpool had made an offer to secure his signature this summer.

However, there are also interested parties in Manchester City, Arsenal and Newcastle to contend with. And according to previous reports Madrid are ready to ask for €150 million in order to prise him out of the club.

Arsenal are said to be aware that Rodrygo could now push for an exit and are ready to wait for their opportunity. It’s also mentioned that Madrid might well opt to head off a problematic situation by getting rid of Rodrygo before he kicks up a fuss.

Nonetheless, Sport claims the player’s entourage are anxious that he does not fall down the pecking order and are ready to demand a move in case it happens.

Liverpool are on the lookout for wingers this summer with Mohamed Salah out of contract in 2025 and uncertainty over Luis Diaz.
