Jürgen Klopp officially returns to football with Red Bull role

Jürgen Klopp will officially return to football in January with the former Liverpool boss taking over as Head of Global Soccer at Red Bull.

Just eight months after he left Anfield, Klopp will be returning to the game in an executive capacity with the Austrian drinks giant.

According to Red Bull’s website, Klopp’s new role will see him “manage the company’s international network of football clubs.”

Klopp will not interfere in the day-to-day business of the clubs though, but rather “take on a higher-level strategic position to support those responsible for sports in the further development of the Red Bull game philosophy.

“In addition, the 57-year-old will use his network to support Red Bull in scouting top talent and will be involved in the training and further education of coaches.”

Speaking to Red Bull, Klopp said: “After almost 25 years on the sidelines, I couldn’t be more excited to be involved in a project like this.

“The role may have changed, but my passion for football and the people who make football what it is has not.

“By joining Red Bull on a global level, I want to develop, enhance and support the incredible football talent that is available to us. There are many ways we can do this, leveraging Red Bull’s knowledge and experience and learning from other sports and other industries.

“Together we can discover what is possible. I see my role primarily as a mentor for the coaches and management of the Red Bull clubs, but ultimately I am part of an organisation that is unique, innovative and future-oriented. As I said, nothing could excite me more.”

Reports from several sources in Germany claim that there is a clause in Klopp’s new Red Bull which would see him be able to leave his position to become the German national team boss should Julian Nagelsmann leave.
