Italy make rare history with Daniel Maldini’s international debut 💫
The Maldini name is still going strong in Italian football and has just made history again.
Luciano Spalletti handed Daniel Maldini his senior bow in their country’s Nations League clash with Israel on Monday.
Fittingly, the Monza playmaker’s international debut took place at the Bluenergy Stadium, where his father Paolo made his competitive debut for Milan.
Maldini Jr is also the third member of his generation to represent the Azzurri, with grandfather Cesare also earning caps before managing the national side.
Daniel Maldini coming on for Italy… 26 years after his dad Paolo made his debut in 1988. Grandpa Cesare, of course, was an international too, with 14 caps.
First time ever Italy have 3 generations of internationals. Can't imagine there are too many other examples.— Gabriele Marcotti (@Marcotti) October 14, 2024
A true footballing dynasty.
