IndyCar news: Ed Carpenter Racing welcomes co-owner, maker of Splenda

Ed Carpenter Racing now has shared ownership.

Ted Gelov, the owner of Carmel-based Heartland Food Products Group, has joined the IndyCar Series team. Heartland produces Splenda sweetener and Java House coffee.

“It’s fantastic to find a partner that so closely aligns with our values and shared vision for the future,” team founder and owner Ed Carpenter said in a statement.

ECR fields the Nos. 20 and 21 cars throughout the IndyCar season, and has had a third car for the Indianapolis 500. The team has a seat open after Rinus VeeKay announced he and the team did not agree on a contract extension.
