One of the most historic race venues in North America takes on added importance this weekend as NASCAR's Round of 16 playoffs hits the famed New York Finger Lakes road course to help determine who makes it to the Round of 12.
This is Week 2 of the three-week Round of 16. After next week at Bristol, the playoffs jettison four teams and the Round of 12 ensues the following week. As an added bonus, the Cup Series field will include a pair of potential road-course ringers, one who's become familiar and a blast from the past: Shane van Gisbergen and Juan Pablo Montoya.
But first, some technical skills come into play for a bunch of racers who, mostly, grew up turning left and mashing the gas. And we'll see three levels of that skill as three different NASCAR stock-car entities tackle The Glen — ARCA, Xfinity and the Cup Series each get their turns.
