Furman men’s soccer was eliminated from the NCAA Tournament second round Sunday with a 4-0 loss to Marshall at Hoops Family Field in Huntington, West Virginia.
Marshall (12-1-7), the No. 13 seed, advances to the quarterfinals and will play Nov. 30 or Dec. 1 at home against N.C. State (10-4-5), which upset No. 4 seed Georgetown, 2-0.
The Thundering Herd scored all of its goals in the first half. Lineker Rodrigues had two, while Haruhi Taneda and Taris Pannholzer had one each
Furman had just one shot on goal. The Paladins (9-3-6) in the first round played North Carolina to a scoreless draw until winning it, 5-3, on penalty kicks.
Doug Allison completed his 26th season as Furman coach. The Paladins made the national quarterfinals in 1999 and the Round of 16 in 2002.
This was their 14th appearance in the NCAA tournament and came after their 16th Southern Conference tournament championship.
