Eric Roy evokes Brest Ligue 1 relegation fears
Stade Brestois may be riding high in the UEFA Champions League, with Eric Roy’s side still unbeaten and fourth in the table with four points, but the same cannot be said in Ligue 1.
After a slender 3-2 defeat against AS Monaco on Friday, Brest are on a run of three consecutive defeats. With just 13 points from their opening 12 games, they could theoretically find themselves in a relegation place by the end of the weekend, and given their current predicament, Roy has admitted that Brest are looking over their shoulders.
“We are aware that we will have to fight this season, perhaps against relegation. There is nothing shameful in that. It is something that has been ingrained in the club for many years. Last season was an incredible one but it is clear that we aren’t managing to take off,” said the Brest manager in a press conference, attended by Get French Football News.
He added, “I think we’ll have to look behind us rather than in front of ourselves in any case in the coming weeks.” Les Pirates face tricky fixtures against RC Strasbourg Alsace and Lille OSC before coming up against FC Nantes before the winter break.
