Bundesliga club shows interest in appointing Sandro Wagner
Hoffenheim showed interest in appointing Sandro Wagner as their new head coach in August and although Pellegrino Matarazzo is still in charge, the Bundesliga side aren’t given up hope of appointing Germany’s assistant coach.
According to BILD, Hoffenheim have approached the DFB regarding a possible early release of Wagner, who has a contract until 2026. And as reported earlier, Wagner has also received offers from clubs abroad. Although contracted with the German national team, if an interesting offer comes in for Wagner, he would be open to leaving his role as assistant coach.
This comes after BILD report that Matarazzo is a controversial figure at the club. The 46-year-old has a contract with the Bundesliga side until 2025 but despite having €60m invested into the squad over the summer, has publicly expressed his dissatisfaction with the squad.
Although Wagner taking charge of Hoffenheim in the immediate future is not an option, it could become viable in the winter.
Speaking to BILD, Rudi Völler confirmed interest in Wagner: “I am aware that there are many clubs that are interested in him and that there are always one or two enquiries.”
Wagner spent 18 months at Hoffenheim, scoring 18 and creating a further eight in 50 games across all competitions before a €13m move to Bayern Munich.
