Yesterday (Oct. 6), the Boston Bruins signed star goalie Jeremy Swayman to an eight-year, $66 million contract. With this, the Anchorage, Alaska native will thankfully be on the Bruins' roster for the start of the season. Before his new deal came to fruition, it truly felt that Swayman would start the season unsigned.

While the Bruins did sign Swayman just before the start of the regular season, the expectation was that Joonas Korpisalo would still be the club's starter on opening night. This is because Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery previously named Korpisalo the club's starter for the matchup. In addition, Swayman missed all of training camp and naturally has some rust to shake off.

However, while speaking to reporters today (Oct. 7), Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery said that Swayman is "a possibility" for the Original Six club's matchup against the Panthers.

While the Bruins could still very well end up going with Korpisalo, there is no question that this has created a big-time storyline to watch before the game begins. It will be interesting to see if Montgomery ends up rolling with Swayman as the Bruins' opening-night starter from here.
