Barcelona keeping close tabs on 24-year-old Ligue 1 forward, will be free agent in 2025
We are only a couple of months into the 2024/25 season, but Barcelona have already begun planning for the summer transfer window of 2025.
One of the areas that is likely to be in focus is the centre-forward department with Robert Lewandowski entering the final phase of his career.
It must be noted that the 36-year-old’s contract also expires next year, although there is an option to extend it by one more season if certain conditions are met.
However, Barcelona are already scouring the market for possible options to replace the veteran superstar in the future.
Jonathan David on the agenda
To that end, SPORT reports that Barcelona are keeping a very close eye on the situation of LOSC Lille and Canada striker Jonathan David.
The 24-year-old forward’s contract with the Ligue 1 club expires on June 30 next year and has shown little interest in renewing despite Les Dogues’ attempts to negotiate a new deal.

Barcelona have been alerted by the situation and are thus keeping a close eye on the Canadian international.
David has proven himself in Ligue 1 for a few years now and has started the new season on a strong note as well, already netting seven goals from 11 matches. He is capable of operating in multiple positions in attack, which appeals to the Blaugrana.
A number of top clubs across Europe, such as Juventus and some from the Premier League, have been pushing to sign David.
But Barcelona, too, have entered the scene now and it will be interesting to see whether the La Liga leaders act on their interest in the Canadian or move for other options, with the likes of Erling Haaland and Lautaro Martinez also being linked.
