Jannik Sinner won his second match this week at the BNP Paribas Open to keep his unbeaten season alive.
With his 6-3, 6-3 win over Jan-Lennard Struff of Germany on Stadium Court at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden, Sinner will advance to the Round of 32. He’ll next play Ben Shelton, who won a thrilling three-setter over Francisco Cerundolo in Sunday’s nightcap match inside Stadium 1.
Sinner, the 2024 Australian Open champion, looked sharp from the start Sunday, going up a break early and coasting to a win without much resistance. He went through the match rather methodically, winning more than 80 percent of his first serve points and saving all three break points he faced.
Sinner’s forehand was lethal in the match. He continually used it to put Struff on his heels, with his forehand firing the ball as fast as 84 mph at one point.
"I feel like for sure I'm playing with confidence at the moment, but in the other way, I'm very careful, because the match can change very fast," Sinner said. "If he breaks me second set on 4-3, going 4-All, then it starts again from zero."
Jannik Sinner defeated Jan-Lennard Struff during their round three match at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, Calif., on Sunday, March 10, 2024.
The Italian tennis star, 22, is now 14-0 on the year and has a 17-match winning streak going back to last season’s three Davis Cup wins. Overall, Sinner, has won 27 of his last 28 matches.
Sinner reached the semifinals at Indian Wells last year, falling to eventual champion Carlos Alcaraz.
